Wastegripper develops product for smarter waste handling

Waste trade in Europe has grown rapidly. Today, combustible industrial waste is a valuable asset for heat and power stations, and ever-growing volumes of waste are transported over long distances. A challenge for the companies in the business is the handling of waste during transportation. The Wastegripper project is now developing a technological solution that radically rationalises and improves the quality of the handling work.

Since a couple of months, Wastegripper resides in the Inova Incubator.

“Thanks to this opportunity, we can build a team around the project, which is invaluable in this process. When you’re on your own, you easily get struck with tunnel vision. Now I can have direct feedback on proposals and ideas,” says Jan-Åke Ganterud, who is the technological innovator behind Wastegripper.

Jan-Åke has long experience of marketing and product development in the field of lift management on the international arena, which means he has deep insight into how the relevant market works.

“Along with the trade surge, the handling issue has become increasingly essential. Today’s situation is unacceptable, with bales of waste cracking and leaking in ports as well as ships. Using the technology behind our future product, we can contribute to better-quality environmental management of our waste,” says Jan-Åke.

In co-operation with other Värmland-based industrial players, Wastegripper will now begin the development of a first prototype. The first model is expected to be ready in the first quarter of 2011.
