The Pursuit of Ideas: great diversity of business concepts
{mosimage} When the jury summarised the outcome after the first deadline of the Pursuit of Ideas, it could be noted that the idea holders were quite diverse. The business concepts related to a wide spread of businesses, and one-third of the idea holders were women. Jon Nielzen, project manager for the Pursuit of Ideas, also wants to highlight the importance of a vast geographical distribution.– We’ve tried hard to reach out to all the municipalities of Värmland, he explains.
The aim of the Pursuit of Ideas is twofold: it is to function both as training and as inspiration for people with business concepts. In three steps, each one including an assignment to be handed in, the participants are to develop a complete business plan. Jon is satisfied with the fact that the entries cover the whole region, from Årjäng in the west to Kristinehamn in the east.
– The Pursuit of Ideas should function as a tool for people all over the county, so I see it as an important task to spread the word about the opportunities created by the competition, he says.
Another thing that became evident after the first deadline was that a relatively large share of the entries had been submitted by students.
– Värmland has a lot to gain from boosting entrepreneurship among students. One of the positive effects is that they’re more likely to stay in the region after graduation, so that they can create new jobs, Jon continues.
The Pursuit of Ideas in Värmland is the local segment of the Venture Cup business-plan competition. It addresses all who have an idea of a product or service with a connection to Värmland. The next step of the Pursuit of Ideas will be to support the involved participants and to attract new idea holders.
– We’ll give lectures and arrange inspirational evenings for both existing and new participants. There’s still a chance to turn in entries to the competition, Jon says.
The winners of the first step of the Pursuit of Ideas will be presented at a lunch event on 5 December, at 12.00 noon, at Inova. To learn more about the competition, visit www.idejakten.nu (in Swedish).
